Mosaic Basics: From the Ground Up

Gain a solid knowledge base to create whatever you can imagine in mosaic. Designed for beginner and intermediate students, this is the most comprehensive interactive learning opportunity available covering everything you need to know to create technically sound and aesthetically pleasing mosaic art. Overview of materials, tools, and fabrication approaches.
Introduction to Smalti
Online Interactive. Oct. 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2024, 7 -9 pm ET
Smalti is a traditional enameled glass mosaic material with highly reflective qualities and a wide range of colors. It has been used for hundreds of years. Weekly meetings with Bonnie are part lecture, part work-in-progress review, group discussion, and work-along. Some knowledge of mosaic technique is required.
Color Theory for Mosaics
Online Interactive. November 12 & 19, 2024, 7 -9 pm ET
Exploring the principles of color theory and how we can apply them to mosaic is an invaluable skill. Internalizing these doctrines will change how you approach your next project, for the better! This workshop is designed for students with some mosaic experience.

I am not very tech savvy; what if I have technical snafus?
Our interactive, online courses are hosted on Zoom, Teams or OBS platforms. You will be sent a link to your email on the morning of the first class meeting. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, drop the instructor a note for personal coaching. The self-guided courses have a dedicated module demonstrating navigation around the site.
Do you offer discounts?
We offer favorable pricing to teachers working in certified teaching entities (public and private schools, colleges). Your students must be under the age of 22. Contact us for details at contact@makeitmosaicsonline.com
What is your cancellation policy for Interactive Online Learning classes?
- All cancellations must be made in writing to contact@makeitmosaicsonline.com
- Notice of cancellation 30 days or more before the start: date 100% cash refund less a $50 processing fee.
- Notice of cancellation between 30 and 7 days before the start date: 100% credit less a $50 processing fee. Credits are only valid for online learning. NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS will be given for cancellation made 7 days or less before the start date.

ABOUT BONNIE
As an art educator with over two decades of experience, I’ve had the privilege of guiding people of all ages in discovering and nurturing their artistic talents. Most of these teachings have been through the mediums of mosaics and sculpture.
As the founder and owner of Maverick Mosaics, LLC, I take pride in crafting distinctive learning opportunities. In addition to my continuous teaching commitments, I’ve created numerous unique artworks for private and public spaces while maintaining my own studio practice since 1998.
Dedicated to broadening the reach of mosaic education, I authored two best-selling books. In both, I share my design and fabrication experience, technical expertise, and collaborations with other artists. Since 2014 I have been the exclusive instructor of Contemporary Mosaics for the Smithsonian Institution’s Studio Arts Program in Washington, DC.
My passion for fostering a love for community and public art in future generations led me to develop the Maverick Legacy program. Over the span of a decade, I collaborated with public school art teachers to create several impressive clay and mosaic “legacy” works in regional schools.
With Make it Mosaic Online, my goal is to ensure the sustainability of this art form by engaging and mentoring younger artists. Additionally, I aim to assist fellow art educators in seamlessly integrating mosaics into their curriculum.
Make it Mosaics Online builds on the achievements of Maverick Mosaics’ teaching history and the success of the Make it Mosaics YouTube Channel, which was developed in collaboration with my colleague Kim Wozniak. The information-packed channel has garnered over 2 million views across 100+ videos.
