ABOUT BONNIE

As an art educator, I have guided art enthusiasts of all ages on their journey to discover and develop a personal artistic voice for nearly 20 years. Most of these teachings have been through the mediums of mosaics and sculpture. 

As founder and owner of Maverick Mosaics, LLC, I pride myself on creating unique learning experiences. Since 1998, in addition to my ongoing teaching schedule,  I have designed many private and public one-of-a-kind artworks, as well as maintaining my own studio practice.

Dedicated to broadening the reach of mosaic education, I authored two best-selling books. In both, I share my design and fabrication experience, technical expertise, and collaborations with other artists. Since 2014 I have been the exclusive instructor of Contemporary Mosaics for the Smithsonian Institution’s Studio Arts Program in Washington, DC.

A longtime interest of mine is to educate and promote an appreciation of community and public art to the “next generation.” I developed the Maverick Legacy program, working with public school art teachers and, over a 10 year period, spearheaded a variety of clay and mosaic large-scale “legacy” works in several regional schools.

My goal for Make it Mosaics Online is to build sustainability of the art form by recruiting younger artists and helping other art educators integrate mosaics into their curriculum.

This first course builds on the success of the Make it Mosaics YouTube Channel developed in partnership with colleague Kim Wozniak. Our information-packed channel has nearly 2 million views of our 60+ videos.
